So here is what the Airline says. Anything to which you respond 'forget that, that's ridiculous' pay particular attention it and make sure you do it. 

General Baggage Restrictions

For safety reasons the stuff below is restricted or prohibited on our flights. 

Please read this and ensure that you do not pack these items in your carry-on or checked baggage!

Lithium Batteries

Whether a lithium battery can be carried by air or not depends on its configuration and either Watt-hour (Wh) rating (for rechargeable) or Lithium content (LC) (for non-rechargeable). Use the following table to determine if your battery is acceptable:

Spare lithium batteries including power banks can’t be checked in luggage 

(see carry-on restrictions previous post):

·     The terminals of all spare batteries must be protected from short circuit by enclosing them in their original retail packaging or taping over the terminals or using separate plastic bags for each battery.

Batteries contained in equipment such as laptop computers, cameras, mobile phones can be checked:

·      Batteries must be switched off and measures taken to ensure that they cannot be accidentally activated when placed in checked baggage.

General rules for checked baggage

For safety reasons this stuff is on the no fly list:

• Security brief-cases with installed security using batteries, or trionic briefcases; (so no James Bond-self-destructing-uber-security suitcases; if something is so valuable it needs this level of protection please leave it home! Or better yet, sell it and give the procedes to the poor.)
• spare Lithium batteries or power banks
• Mace canisters or aerosol protection devices of any kind.
• Gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and/or poisonous) such as butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen, aqualung cylinders.
• Corrosive materials (such as acids, alkalies, mercury and wet cell batteries).
• Explosives, munitions fireworks and flares.
• Flammable liquids, solids such as lighter or heating fuels, matches, paints, thinners, fire-lighters.
• Oxidizing materials such as bleaching powder, and peroxides.
• Poisons and substances such as insecticides, weed-killers, and repellants
• Aerosols

... so here is the deal for us. There is stuff for the youth conference and ministry that must go. This has priority. We want to really try to fit personal stuff in our carry-on, plus one checked bag per family and 15lbs for singles.
